The NRA’s Latest Anti-Gun Candidate

NRA A-rated Democrat Kathy Hochul, who is running for Lieutenant Governor in New York, has given her full backing to New York’s extremist gun control law, the SAFE Act.

The NRA endorsed Hochul in her Congressional election in 2012 and also gave her an “A” rating. Now Hochul is embracing one of the worst gun laws in the country.

The SAFE Act mandates background checks, limits magazine size and includes a long list of unconstitutional gun control measures. Hochul doesn’t have a problem with any of this, saying that the SAFE Act is “reasonable” and that her support for the SAFE Act is not “inconsistent” with her support from the NRA.

“What the SAFE Act does it gets at something every reasonable gun owner wants to make sure occurs is that guns don’t get into hands of mentally ill people, they don’t get into the hands of criminals, and we do much more to get illegal guns off the streets in urban areas where they are plaguing our streets and killing our children,” she said.

The NRA has a long history of endorsing RINOs and Democrats, but rarely has one of its candidates taken a position that is so blatantly anti-gun. A local gun group, the New York State Rifle And Pistol Association, recently gave Hochul an “F” rating.  She still has an “A” rating from the NRA, however.

The NRA should pull its “A” rating for Hochul immediately. More importantly, it should stop endorsing moderates and Democrats who support gun rights only when it is convenient.
